I’ve read a touching story ina  magazine. It was talking about a taxi driver’s experience with an old woman. The taxi driver was called to a surburban place to wait for his customer then. He knocked at the door to see if his customer needed help, and a old voice answered, “ Please wait.” He heard something heavy dragged on the floor, and an old woman faltered with her luggage when the door opened. He helped the woman carry her luggage and asked where to go. The woman said an adress and asked, ” Can you drive through the downtown there? ” The driver told her that it wasn’t the shortest route. “ Ah, it doesn’t matter. I’m going to a nursing home and therefore I’m not in a hurry.” the woman replied. The taxi driver reached out and turned off the milometer secretly and went into the downtown at midnight. There were few lights still on. The woman told the drive to stop at some places and talked about her memories in the city -- the department store she worked in was closed after the fire; the house she lived in was a grocery store then; the places she had walked with her husband, who had been dead for years, etc.

It turned out that the woman had cancer and decided to go to the nursing home for the rest of her life. She  yearned for seeing the world she recognized again and a chance to say good-bye. When the taxu arrived at the nursing home, where the driver knew that she wouldn’t be out again, he hugged the old woman warmly. “ How much do I owe you? “ the old woman asked, reaching for her purse. “ Nothing. ” answered the taxi driver. “ You have to earn for your life. “ the old woman insisted. “ There are other passengers. “ said the taxi driver and he refused to charge her even a penny.

When I finished reading the story, I couldn’t help but read it again. I could feel my eyes rimming with tears; the pace of the story was slow, kind of sad but beautiful. I could see that the old woman has knew her ending, but she faced it calmly. She was brave to face her death and she had prepared to bid farewell to the world. How she loved the world! The memories she polished were the only thing she could bring to the grave. I learn to cherish each second I breathe and hope that I won’t be regretful when I am about to leave this beautiful world.
